GM has confirmed that its new second-generation Volt will make its global debut at January’s Detroit Auto Show.

Accompanying the news is a first teaser image, offering a glimpse of the new model’s tailgate and familiar Volt badge.

While few styling details can be discerned from this tightly cropped teaser, it is understood that the plug-in electric vehicle will again be offered in five-door hatchback form only.

TMR’s own spy photos reveal an even more sleek profile than the current model, which already wears something of a four-door coupe design.

We can likely expect a more curved and ‘organic’ look to the new Volt, moving away from the current car’s angular and wedge-like design.
