The shortest-running rumour in recent history is now a reality, with the unveiling this week of Ford’s all-new GT supercar in Detroit.

Destined for production in 2016, the new American supercar’s showroom debut will mark 10 years since the ‘first’ GT was last seen on an assembly line and 50 years since Ford took a 1-2-3 victory at Le Mans.

The last GT was a faithful reproduction of the original GT40 race car’s legendary design, but this new model, designed by Hobart-born Todd Willing, pushes the badge into more modern territory.
