Ford’s love-affair with turbocharged six-cylinder engines has produced a new surprise, as another car cover is lifted at the Detroit Auto Show.

Meet the 2016 F-150 Raptor performance pickup, which becomes the second model in as many days to raise the eyebrows of Ford’s fans with its choice of powerplant.

Following the unveiling of the all-new 2016 GT Supercar with its turbocharged V6 engine, the Raptor has also done away with the V8 that powered its predecessor in favour of the smaller EcoBoost unit.

The Raptor will also be powered by a 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine, but, while the GT version makes “more than” 447kW, the F-150’s version will have to make do with “more than” 307kW and 588Nm.
