The first morsels of information about BMW's new 7 Series have been officially released, confirming that the Bavarian brand's luxury flagship will be built around a part-steel, part-carbonfibre passenger cell and ride on full air suspension.
Compared to the current-gen model the new 7 Series will weigh roughly 130kg less, largely thanks to the key use of carbon fibre in its structure.
Using know-how gleaned during the development of the BMW i8 and BMW i3, this new steel-carbon chassis uses thick carbon sections on the A-pillar and roof rail, the C-pillar and the top of the centre tunnel.
