2015 SUBARU LIBERTY
The new Liberty was first teased in early November with the La Auto Show unveiling of the muscular Legacy concept, bearing the name carried by the midsized sedan in overseas markets.
Subaru has released a shadowy yet telling teaser image for the new Liberty, revealing that the production model will feature a profile that is nearly identical to its concept progenitor.
That will likely come as welcome news to fans, who have seen powerfully styled Subaru concepts of years past morph into considerably less exciting final forms.
"The all-new Legacy is a mid-size sports sedan which offers enhanced driveability and functionality while achieving a design required for a flagship model with a quality feel," the company said in a statement.
"Its styling fused with functionality such as roominess and visibility embodies the design direction proposed by the 'Legacy Concept' at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show."
The new Liberty won't be entirely identical to the Legacy concept however. This teaser image clearly shows a taller glasshouse and a more conventional headlight and door-mirror design.
Smaller wheels are also likely to replace the large sports rims that fill out the corners of the Legacy concept, while a simplified bumper design should appear at both ends.
In concept form, the Legacy concept measures 4930mm long, 1940mm wide and 1500mm tall, riding on a 2880mm wheelbase.
The already large fifth-generation Liberty (Legacy overseas) measures 4735mm long in sedan form, sitting on a 2751mm wheelbase.
The current fifth-generation Liberty was launched in 2009 as a 2010 model.
