Subaru has offered a first early look at its next-generation Liberty range this week, revealing the new Legacy Concept ahead of its LA Auto Show debut.

The new concept builds on the brand's existing styling language, while showcasing elements first introduced with this year's WRX concept.

But, as was the case with the new WRX sedan, we can expect this concept's final evolution to lose much of its muscular design.

Shown here as a sort of four-door coupe, the Legacy concept measures 4930mm long, 1940mm wide and 1500mm tall, riding on a 2880mm wheelbase.

The already large fifth-generation Liberty (Legacy overseas) measures 4735mm long in sedan form, sitting on a 2751mm wheelbase.

The carmaker has yet to reveal the showcar's interior, but high quality materials and a four-seater layout are promised.

The debut of this new concept follows a series of spy photos obtained in July and, although heavy camouflage obscures much of the design, it is clear the production model will not be an identical match for this LA showcar.

The new model will likely appear in the first half of 2014, keeping in step with Subaru's five-year product cycles.

The current fifth-generation Liberty was launched in 2009 as a 2010 model.
