Around 16 Australian buyers have already placed orders for Peugeot’s special-edition 208 GTi 30th Anniversary - even though local pricing has yet to be locked in.

Built to commemorate the launch of the iconic 205 GTi in 1984, the 208 GTi 30th Anniversary was originally not planned for an Australian-market release.

However passionate pleas from Peugeot fans saw a change of heart from local importer Sime Darby, and the 208 GTi 30th Anniversary is now expected to arrive in February 2015.

And while the price tag has yet to be finalised, TMR has been informed that the premium over a standard 208 GTi is not expected to be greater than $10,000.

“If you look at the difference in pricing between the ($58,990) RCZ and the ($68,990) RCZ-R, that’s probably the same premium that we’re looking at [for the 208 GTi 30th Anniversary],” said Peugeot Automobiles Australia National Marketing Manager Dimitri Andreatidis to TMR.

Andreatidis also stressed that the $10k premium would be a worst-case scenario, and would only apply to the special two-tone matte black/gloss red paint scheme.

The conventional pearl white and gloss red body colours will attract a smaller premium.
