Nissan’s Pathfinder may no longer be a proper off-roader, but reports in recent months suggest the carmaker won’t be leaving fans of the old model in the lurch.
Reports have circulated for some time that the Navara, which made its next-generation debut last week, will again spawn a rugged and capable SUV model to take on a growing number of 4WD rivals.
While the new Pathfinder’s monocoque chassis makes it more of a ‘soft roader’, this new Navara-based model would have the mechanical package needed to tackle Holden’s Colorado 7.
And while Nissan has yet to announce plans for such a model, vice president Andy Palmer has described the idea as a “logical” move.
Rendered in digital ink by independent artist Theophilus Chin, the imagined Navara SUV shown here builds on the lock of the new pickup, while borrowing rear-end styling from models like the new Pathfinder.
The new Navara made its global debut last week, and an Australian sales launch is set to occur early next year.
