2015 SUBARU WRX STI REVEALED
Another motor show, another press embargo that never had a chance.
As expected, the new STI builds on the look of the regular WRX model, adding the iconic World Rally Blue and gold wheel combination, along with bigger tail pipes and a large wing across the rear deck.
But, while past generations of the STI have brought greater differentiation through unique bumpers, a larger bonnet scoop and meatier guards, this coming 2015 model is a more subtle upgrade on the look of the new WRX.
Technical details for the new STI are still to be confirmed, although reported leaks suggest power will again be provided by a 2.5 litre turbocharged boxer, with output likely to go a little beyond the 221kW and 407Nm of the current model.
By comparison, the 'regular' new WRX sedan offers 199kW and 349Nm, produced by a 2.0 litre direct-injected and turbocharged 2.0 litre boxer engine.
The new WRX will hit Australia in March, and Subaru recently opened the order books for the first 100 examples. Local timing for the new STI will likely come in the hours following its Detroit unveiling.
