Mercedes-Benz has given us an early preview of its updated B-Class people-mover, ahead of an official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show.

The combined compact / hatch / people-mover market was basically owned by Benz upon the B-Class’ release, but increased competition from the likes of Kia’s Rondo and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer - along with the Ford S-Max in overseas markets - has prompted the upgrade.

"As the first member of a completely new generation of compact class, for us the B-Class paved the way for great success in this vehicle segment; the pioneer is now in better shape than ever," Mercedes-Benz’s Ola Källenius said.

Mercedes hopes to build on the more than 350,000 first-generation B-Class examples sold since its market debut in 2011 with new styling and more equipment for 2015.

The German market will have 11 B-Class models to choose from at launch - five diesel, five petrol and one natural gas - kicking off price-wise with the B 180 petrol model at 27,102 euros (AU$38,810).
