In a nod to the growing importance of the Chinese market - and of the Chinese appetite for SUVs of all kinds - US brand Lincoln has whipped the covers off its MKX concept at the Beijing auto show this week.

Previewing the second generation of the Ford-owned prestige brand's popular SUV, the MKX concept appears to be not far off production-ready status.

In fact, save for the intricate LED headlamps and spindly wing mirrors, this concept doesn't look terribly far from being production-ready.

However, Lincoln is keeping the MKX's interior under wraps for now, and no details on powertrain or drivetrain have been released. More details will be released when the all-new MKX makes its production debut later this year or early next year.

Will we ever see it in Australia? No, but with the MKX sharing its platform with the upcoming 2015 Ford Edge (which will be the likely successor to the Ford Territory when local production ceases), we will at least get to sample the MKX's blue-collar cousin.
