Instead of bringing back the near-sacred Jeepster name, this new model will revive the Renegade name that appeared on a concept back in 2008, and on earlier CJ7 models.
These new images, with exterior and interior views, deliver our first look at the new model that will mark Jeep’s entry into the hugely popular compact or ‘crossover’ SUV market.
It is believed the Renegade will share its underpinnings with Fiat's coming 500X SUV, and reports suggest we can expect both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations.
The first image to appear, surfacing last week, previewed the 'Trailhawk' trail-rated version of the new Renegade, while today's shots also reveal the regular roadgoing model.
Details are still to come, although it is claimed the new Renegade was "designed in America and built in Italy" - likely alongside the 500X at Fiat Chrysler's plant in Melfi, Italy.
Powertrains are also likely to be shared with the 500X, and a nine-speed automatic transmission will feature - the first compact SUV to offer ZF's new auto.
All models will be all-wheel-drive, whether in road or 'Trailhawk' off-road form.
At this stage, right-hand-drive production is still to be confirmed, meaning that an Australian debut remains unclear.
