As expected, the Territory’s interior boasts as many visual changes as the exterior, with first impressions of the refreshed cabin revealing few obvious updates.
A number of features appear largely identical to the outgoing model’s interior, including the overall dash layout, the four-spoke steering wheel and the large gear shift lever.
Many of the switches and buttons also appear unchanged, although some are slightly repositioned and molded in new colours.
The centre stack represents the most obvious visual update, with a dark grey housing replacing the silver unit of the outgoing range.
An updated eight-inch colour touch screen sits atop the stack, offering control by either touch, buttons, or voice commands through Ford’s SYNC 2 system.
That interface also features an Australian-accented audio guide and no, it’s not Apple’s Siri; it’s “Karen”.
In both the Territory and the updated 2015 Falcon sedan, Karen has the ability to respond to driver commands and demands, from “find a car park” to simply “I’m hungry”.
“The voice system was tuned specifically for Australia which helps SYNC understand voice commands spoken with an Australian accent,” said Adrian McGibbon, Supervisor, Multimedia Systems, Ford Asia Pacific.
“We think SYNC2 is a significant leap forward for the customer with voice control features now available on navigation†, climate and even radio.”
Karen is not an entirely all-new feature, however: Ford's SYNC system already had the ability to understand Australian accents, and the same "Karen" voice appears in devices from Garmin, TomTom and Navman.
Ford has also confirmed a number of new features for the 2015 Territory range, in response, it says, to strong customer feedback.
