The 2015 Ford Mustang appears on-track for an arrival in Australian showrooms late next year, with testing of the first right-hand-drive model now underway.

Ford released this single photograph of the new right-hook muscle car today in prototype form, marking the first time a RHD Mustang will be available from the factory.

Australia isn’t the only RHD market Ford will be targeting of course, with the UK, South Africa and New Zealand among 25 new markets for the ‘Blue Oval’s’ pony car.

Furthermore, Ford will begin production of the right-hand-drive Mustang more or less at the same time as the left-hand-drive, with sales of the LHD version to the US market due to begin in the Australian spring.

Ford says more than 161,000 Mustangs have been sold outside the US since the car’s debut in 1964, compared with 9.2 million sales in its home market.
