UPDATE: New photos added.
This month marks the eighth anniversary of the current-gen Fiat Punto's arrival in Australia, which - notwithstanding its absence between 2010 and 2013 - makes it a rather old offering.
But to spruce it up and smooth out some of those crows feet, Fiat is planning a facelift for the Punto.
The first photos of the 2015 Punto have now hit the web ahead of its official unveiling, and while the front and rear get new bumpers, lights and sheetmetal, there are no major changes expected under the skin.
That means the existing 57kW/115Nm 1.4 litre petrol engine will likely continue to be offered in Australia, while overseas markets will also get a 62kW 1.3 diesel, a 62kW 0.9 turbo petrol and a 50kW 1.2 petrol.
The 2016 model year will likely be the Punto's last, with the ageing model set to be superseded in 2016 by an all-new five-door light hatch that may wear a "500 Plus" badge on its bootlid.
Fiat-Chrysler Australia has yet to confirm when the local Punto range will receive the update.
