Now, new photos may have revealed a first look at the reported update, spied by a reader of Chinese website Autohome.
Caught undisguised and unceremoniously mounted atop a semi-trailer transporting lengths of steel piping, the updated Cruze's full front- and rear-end styling can be seen clearly.
The photos reveal a brand-new front bumper design, along with re-styled headlights with smoothed-out corners and new integrated LED daytime running lights.
Changes to the rear are even more dramatic, with completely redesigned tail-lights, a new integrated lip spoiler in the boot lid, and a subtly restyled bumper.
The profile of the updated Cruze remains unchanged however, with a single character line running through the top of the doors, beneath the same arched glasshouse.
It remains unclear when this update will hit American and Australian markets, but with a late 2015 debut now expected for the next-generation Cruze, this facelift could hit showrooms in the second or third quarter of 2014 - if not sooner.
