The new Z06 will pack a 466kW and 861Nm punch from its (now confirmed) 6.2 litre supercharged V8 engine; figures close to those uncovered recently by a clever fan.
Aside from its colossal power output, other engine features include direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation to save fuel.
Power is fed to the rear wheels through a smart electronic limited slip differential, via a seven-speed manual transmission or a new eight-speed automatic with paddle-shifters.
The new Corvette model sits upon a stiff aluminium frame, allowing Chevrolet to offer a removable roof panel on a Z06 for the first time.
Inside, the Z06 features unique colour schemes, two seat options (comfort or sport) and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Customers will be able to choose from three levels of downforce; standard Z06, carbon-fibre aero package or a third option as part of a new “Z07 Performance Package”.
The Z07 Pack includes Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tyres, Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors, and the best of the three aero packages; delivering the most amount of aerodynamic down-force of any GM production car.
Fuel consumption and performance figures are yet to be released, but expect something special, as Chevrolet says that the new Z06 with the Z07 Pack can deliver faster lap times than the 2013 Corvette ZR1.
The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06 is set to arrive in American showrooms in early 2015.
