The second generation of BMW’s X6 ‘Sport Activity Coupe’ is set to grow in aggression and size when it launches in 2014. As if it needed a dose of either.
UK mag Autocar suggests the new X6 will follow the smaller X4’s debut next year, and will be more overtly styled to better distinguish it from the mainstream X5.
"We want to give our sporting models a more individual look, further separating them visually from the more practical models in our line-up," an insider told Autocar.
The next X6 will continue to share its platform with the X5, which is set to debut in third-generation guise at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Like the new X5, the new X6 will also feature a longer wheelbase to benefit rear seat occupants, and a plug-in hybrid variant is set to follow petrol and diesel six-cylinder, and petrol V8 options in 2015.
Exact launch timing is yet to be specified, but next August’s Moscow Motor Show is a likely venue for the X6’s debut, given the Russian market’s current thirst for luxury SUVs.
