The new model's coming has been known for some time, from reports back in 2010 through to official confirmation early last year.
Like the X6, the X4 will be marketed as a "Sports Activity Coupe". It will be a good deal smaller however, sharing its platform with the 4652mm-long X3.
Up front, the X4 features the same connected grille-to-headlights design worn across the new 3 and 4 Series model lines, while a strong X6-inspired bumper dominates the lower half of the face.
The profile of the X4 debuts strong new character lines, below a roofline that is even more coupe-inspired than the big X6. The whole package sits on large 21-inch alloy wheels.
The rear shows off tail-lights and a bumper heavily inspired by the 4 Series Coupe, tying the two badges together.
As with the X6, an X4 line-up could conceivably include an M-badged version, perhaps powered by the twin-turbo 3.0 litre six that drives the limited-edition 1 Series M.
