BMW’s 2 Series Coupe will soon feature an upgraded version of the 220d's 2.0 litre TwinPower turbocharged diesel engine, bringing more power and improved economy.
The power gain is marginal, with an additional 5kW and 20Nm now on tap, but the total output is a respectable 140kW and 400Nm.
The extra go has had an effect on the zero to 100km/h time however, bringing the time down by 0.1 seconds to 7.1 and 7.0 seconds in the manual and automatic models respectively.
Fuel consumption is the key with this one, however, with the upgrade cutting fuel use to 3.8 l/100km in its most efficient guise (with the eight-speed auto), compared to 4.4 l/100km for the current local 220d.
This is thanks in part to an upgraded version of the eight-speed automatic, while the optional six-speed manual is an all-new unit.
