2014 VOLVO S60 AND V60

Volvo's updated S60 sedan and V60 wagon are now on sale in Australia, following their international unveiling earlier this year.

Headlining the updates to the stylish midsizers is a new front-end design, showcasing a return to the single-unit headlight style of previous generations.

There's also a new grille, new bumper and new wheel designs, along with LED-enhanced tail lights and new exhaust tips. The cabin sees new trim colours and metallic accents to the dash.

The carmaker has consolidated both model lines for 2014, and key cuts include the removal of the entry T4 model from the V60 range, and the lower-output option in the T6 engine line.

Prices are up across the S60 line, ranging from 500 to $1500 depending on the model, while nearly all V60 models have been reduced in price by the same margin.

Base models now wear a 'Kinetic' badge, and the mid-spec Teknik grade has been renamed 'Luxury' for 2014. The R-Design models remain the top-shelf option, and powered-up T6 versions get Polestar branding.

All models are now offered with leather trim and leather steering wheel as standard, along with a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, LED daytime running lights and automatic wipers, a powered driver's seat and an auto dimming interior mirror.

The seats of all models have also been updated with a more supportive design.

Volvo has also added an 'Adaptive Digital Display' to all models, featuring driver controls and a trio of Elegance, Eco and Performance modes.

Move up to the Luxury grade and there's 18-inch alloy wheels, a powered passenger seat, active xenon headlights, satellite navigation, proximity-sensitive keys, and an alarm with motion sensor.

In the R-Design models, there's enhanced sports seats with contrast stitching, aluminium, wood and stainless steel highlights, and sports accents throghout.

The R-Design models of course also feature a more sporting body package, with a sports chassis tune, speed-sensitive steering, paddle shifters, unique bumpers, skirts, 18-inch wheels and exhaust designs.

New safety features are also available, including Active High Beam Control, Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Cornering Light, Enhanced Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Alert, Road Sign Information, and an enhanced City Safety system that now functions at speeds up to 50km/h.

A $5000 Driver Support Pack for Luxury and R-Design models adds Blind Spot Monitoring and Cross Traffic Alert, Driver Alert System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning and Full Auto-brake, front and rear parking sensors, and auto-dimming mirrors.

Spec grades have been updated for 2014, although the powertrains themselves remain unchanged for the new model year.

The petrol T4 model opens the S60 sedan range, its 1.6 litre petrol engine offering 132kW and 240Nm of torque.

Matched with a six-speed auto, the T4 lists fuel use at 7.4 l/100km, with a 0-100km/h time of 9.0 seconds.

The diesel D4 model gets a 2.0 litre five-cylinder engine producing 120kW and 400Nm, matched to a six-speed auto. Fuel use listed at 5.9 l/100km and the 0-100km/h time at 9.2 seconds for the sedan, and 6.0 l/100km & 6.0 for the V60 wagon.

With the mid-spec T5, there's a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine offering 177kW and 320Nm.

Matched with a six-speed auto, Volvo promises a 0-100km/h time of 7.5 seconds for the sedan, with fuel use listed at 8.6 l/100km. In the wagon, those numbers climb to 7.7 seconds and 8.7 l/100km.

The top T6 models again feature a 3.0 litre turbocharged six-cylinder unit, offering 242kW and 480Nm.

Matched with a paddle-shifted six-speed auto and all-wheel-drive, fuel use is listed at 10.2 l/100km and the 0-100km/h time at 5.7 seconds. That grows slightly to 10.3 l/100km and 5.8 seconds with the wagon.
