Volkswagen Australia has given its Polo light hatch a refresh for the 2015 model year, with a raft of under-the-skin changes designed to improve efficiency, driveability and safety.

There are also a handful of cosmetic changes, with the front and rear bumpers going under the knife and new headlamp clusters. Interior changes are limited to new instruments, steering wheel and centre-stack design.

Prices have also been dropped, with the entry-level 66TSI Trendline costing $16,290 - a reduction of $700 against the outgoing Polo 1.4 base model.

The high-output, high-spec 81TSI Comfortline is priced at $18,290 for the manual, making it $950 cheaper than the less-powerful 77TSI model it replaces.

Meanwhile the slow-selling 66TDI diesel variant has been dropped from the range, making the MY2015 Polo an all-petrol affair.
