As with its shadowy rivals, the SR5-based HiLux Black gets a blacked-out finish to the side steps and sports bar, along with new black-accented 17-inch alloys.
There’s unique TRD bumpers at both ends, and that famous (if less than properly utilised these days - Ed) TRD logo also appears on the wheel caps.
Exterior highlights are rounded out by discreet Black Edition badges at both ends.
And, despite its name, the Black Edition will be offered not only in black, but also in white - with its key features finished in black, of course.
(Interestingly, the black edition of the Black Edition adds $550 to the price.)
As with other models, the Black Edition is powered by Toyota’s 126kW/360Nm 3.0 litre turbodiesel, matched to either a five-speed manual or five-speed auto.
Standard features include a 6.1 inch display, satellite navigation, SUNA Live Traffic updates, reversing camera, and a leather-accented cabin.
Toyota says it will offer “fewer than 1000” of the HiLux SR5 4x4 Double Cab Black Edition specials.
The Black Edition is priced from $53,240 in Glacier White, and $53,790 in Eclipse Black.
A manual transmission is standard, with the auto adding $2750.
