First it was this year's Melbourne event, and now next year's major motoring event in Sydney has also been cancelled, the Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) joint venture confirmed today.

The news comes less than three months since the Melbourne show's cancellation, and raises concerns that Australia may never again host a major international motor show.

Cancelling the event for the second consecutive year will be a major blow to the joint venture's ability to entice carmakers to invest in future events.

The last AIMS event, held last year in Sydney, may have been a harbinger of things to come, with a number of carmakers noteably absent - including Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari and Jeep, among others.
