Smart's ForFour city car will soon return to the Daimler-owned brand's line-up, riding on a platform it will share with the next-generation Renault Twingo.
It's that development alliance that explains the appearance of a new test mule spied this week, wearing cobbled-together body panels of the current Twingo.
Unlike the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ development program, the new Smart and Renault cars will likely come with their own unique styling.
While the look of the next Twingo can likely be guessed at by a glance at the all-new Clio range, Smart's new ForFour may take its cues from the recent Forvision and For-Us concepts.
With both cars expected to make their production debut in mid to late 2014, it's unlikely we'll see anything more than these heavily diguised mules for a while to come.
Watch for more details on both cars to surface over the coming year.
