2014 SKODA YETI AUSTRALIA
Skoda’s updated Yeti compact SUV is now on sale in Australia, bringing a modest makeover, a revised model spread and a number of new features.
The line-up is now limited to front-wheel-drive Active 77TSI and Ambition 90TSI petrol models (the latter replacing the 112TSI), and the top-shelf 4x4 Outdoor 103TDI.
The price of entry has come down, with the range kicking off at $23,490 for the Active 77TSI manual - down from $26,290 in the outgoing range.
Updates on the styling front include sharpened single-unit headlights inspired by the new Rapid and Octavia models, along with a new bonnet, grille and bumper design.
At the rear are updated tail-lights with new smoked lenses and LED-lit internals.
The tailgate also gets a minor tweak, picking up the same angled-off centre section and grab rail featured with the Octavia and Rapid.
Updates to the interior styling are similarly light-on, although Skoda's new three-spoke steering wheel features, along with new colour and trim options and - in the Ambition and Outdoor models - chrome door handles.
For 2014, the Yeti is available with three engine options, depending on the model.
The front-wheel-drive Active 77TSI is powered by a 77kW/175Nm 1.2 litre direct-injected and turbocharged engine.
Fuel consumption is listed at 6.0 l/100km with the six-speed manual and 6.7 l/100km with the optional seven-speed dual-clutch DSG auto.
In the Ambition 90TSI, there’s a 90kW/200Nm 1.4 litre petrol engine, sending power to the front wheels through a DSG transmission exclusively.
Fuel consumption for the 90TSI is listed at 6.8 l/100km.
Topping the range is the all-wheel-drive Outdoor 4x4, powered by a 103kW/350Nm 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine.
Available only with a six-speed DSG auto, the Outdoor lists fuel use at 6.7 l/100km.
The Outdoor 4x4 model features the familiar fifth-generation Haldex system with an electronically controlled multi-plate coupling system.
In normal driving situations, rear-axles are free-running with power going to the front axles only. However, when needed, the Haldex coupling system activates the rear drive.
Suspension is by MacPherson struts at the front, with the two-wheel-drive models getting a torsion-beam rear. The all-wheel-drive Yeti gets a mult-link rear set-up instead.
Steering is direct rack-and-pinion with electro-mechanical power assistance.
Features & Dimensions
Standard features with the entry-level Active 77TSI include 17-inch alloy wheels, a five-inch colour display, Bluetooth audio, central locking, manual air-conditioning, cloth seats and a height-adjustable driver’s seat.
Safety features include seven airbags, ESC and ABS with brake assist, a reversing camera, and rear parking sensors. Isofix child seat anchor points are also standard in the rear.
Moving up to the Ambition 90TSI adds front fog lights, automatic climate control, chrome-plated door handles, multi-function display in the instrument cluster, and heated door mirrors.
Upgrading to the Outdoor 4x4 103TDI adds a cornering function to the front fog lights and a number of ‘rugged’ off-road styling tweaks. The Outdoor model also gains painted silver roof rails and silver side mirrors.
The Yeti also now features optional bi-xenon headlights and integrated daytime running lights.
All three variants get 17-inch alloy wheels, with a unique design for each model.
A larger 6.5 inch display can be optioned with the Tech Pack, which also adds a 12-speaker audio system.
The Yeti measures 4223mm long, 1793mm wide and 1691mm tall, riding on a 2578mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is 180mm in all models.
Rear storage capacity is listed at 321 litres with the back seats upright, and 1485 litres when folded flat. Removing the rear seats expands storage to 1665 litres.
