If you saw the leaked images earlier this year, then you've seen it all before; but now it's official. Here's the new Octavia RS, Skoda's quickest Octavia ever.
Revealed today ahead of its official Goodwood Festival of Speed debut next month, the new RS continues the formula of its predecessor by offering liftback sedan and wagon models, with petrol and diesel options.
As expected, power in the petrol RS is provided by the same 162kW 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbo driving the new Golf GTI, offering a 0-100km/h time of 6.8 seconds.
If you've opened a new browser tab to check the old model's numbers, here they are: 147kW and 7.3 seconds. So, not a bad update at all.
The petrol RS' maximum speed now stretches to 248km/h, making it 6km/h faster than the previous model.
In diesel form, there's a 135kW 2.0 TDI engine - snatched from the Golf GTD, of course - and a 0-100km/h time of 8.1 seconds. That's compared to 121kW and 8.4 seconds in the outgoing model.
There's a six-speed manual doing the shifting in both versions, and a six-speed DSG auto can be had as an option.
The Volkswagen Group's electronic XDS differential system is standard in the RS models, along with a 'progressive' steering package and a faster rack.
And, as you can see here, the Octavia RS also sits lower 12mm lower than the regular model.
On the styling front, it's what you'd expect: a sports body kit - more aggressive than the regular new Octavia and also the outgoing RS - along with alloy wheel options that will go up to 19 inches.
Interior photos are still to come, but you'll find sports seats and a leather steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and sills and a sports-styled instrument cluster.
Speaking with TMR today, Skoda Australia's Nadine Nethery could not confirm local timing for the new RS models.
But, with the regular Octavia due in the fourth quarter, we can likely expect the RS liftback and wagon to arrive very early in 2014.
