Seat has whipped the covers off its most powerful model ever, revealing the 2014 Leon Cupra in two guises - one with 194kW and the other with a very impressive 206kW.

That makes the new Cupra one of the most powerful front-drive hot hatches around, though it's still some way off the mighty 224kW output of the dearly departed Ford Focus RS.

All of that power comes from a turbocharged 2.0 litre inline four, which is closely related to the engine used in the Audi S3 and Audi TTS. Torque peaks at 350Nm in both the 194kW and 206kW versions, and either is available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed twin-clutch automatic.

Straight line performance is impressive, with the 206kW Leon Cupra hitting 100km/h from rest in just 5.7 seconds when equipped with the DSG. The manual is 0.1 seconds slower, while the 194kW model adds another 0.1 seconds to the timer.
