2014 RENAULT MEGANE RS 265
Renault Australia will kick off the launch of its facelifted Megane range this month with the RS 265 hot hatch, the company has confirmed.
For 2014, Renault has dropped the $47,140 Trophy and $51,640 Trophy+ models from the RS range, now streamlined to the upgraded $43,990 Cup and new $47,990 Cup Premium grades.
That means entry into the 'regular' RS range is up $1350, but Renault has introduced a host of features to make the Cup models a more appealing prospect.
Among those enhancements is Renault’s new seven-inch R-Link infotainment system, including satellite navigation - now standard for the first time in the Megane RS.
Renault’s new ‘RS Monitor with RS Replay’ system will also feature, following its debut with the latest Clio RS.
Along with the RS Monitor’s displays for power and torque curves, G-force diagrams, lap times and throttle information, the RS Replay system allows drivers to upload a race track to map their ongoing performance.
Hands-free entry is now also standard.
Upgrading to the Cup Premium adds gloss-black 19-inch Steev alloy wheels (up from 18-inch Tibor alloys with the Cup), leather Recaro buckets, and a rear-view camera.
As before, the Megane RS 265 is powered by a 195kW and 360Nm turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, but a stop&start system has been added as standard equipment.
As a result, combined-cycle fuel consumption figures have dropped from 8.2 to 7.5 l/100km.
Acceleration and top speed is unchanged for 2014, listed at 6.0 seconds to 100km/h with a 255km/h max.
On the styling front, the updated Megane RS 265 gets a refreshed front-end look, with Renault’s new family face taking centre stage.
As with the new Clio, the coming Captur and other models, the Megane gets a wing-like grille design that wraps around the large Renault badge and joins with the inner edge the subtly re-shaped headlights.
“The new brand identity has already proved immensely popular with customers on our award-winning Clio range and we are confident that the new design will attract more new customers to the Megane R.S. 265,” Renault Australia boss Justin Hocevar said.
“The refresh has also provided us an opportunity to renew our specification line-up in response to customer feedback and demand on the previous model.”
Watch for more details on the wider Megane range’s Australian update in the coming weeks.
