Porsche has pulled the wraps off its porky new 911 Turbo, revealing the most powerful model in the new line-up - and the widest.
The rear end of the new Turbo is a full 28mm wider than the already broad Carrera 4, and Porsche says you can just about lay your hand flat between the C-pillar and the outer edge of the body.
But enough about the new Turbo's girth, let's get to the meat of it: 412kW is what awaits you in the top S model, properly bettering the 390kW offered with the previous Turbo S.
The new Turbo again cements its position near the top of the totem pole, sitting above the naturally-aspirated 350kW GT3 revealed in March.
One step below the S - but still well above the GT3 - is the regular Turbo model, producing 383kW.
Both models are powered by Porsche's turbocharged and direct-injected 3.8 litre flat six, with power sent to all wheels exclusively through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch auto.
That's right, like the GT3, no manual will be offered with the new Turbo models. Porsche reckons buyers won't mind: the PDK promises quicker acceleration and greater efficiency.
How much faster, how much cleaner?
Fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus, the 911 Turbo lists a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds, while the top S model shaves a hair off that for a 3.1 second sprint. Top speed is listed at 318km/h.
(If you prefer NA models, and rear-wheel-drive, the GT3 will get to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds.)
And, despite the huge power and a relatively weighty all-wheel-drive system of the 911 Turbo, fuel consumption is a low 9.7 l/100km - a 16 percent improvement. The cleaner running comes thanks - in part - to a new auto start/stop system.
Braking in the new Turbo S is managed by huge PCCB ceramic brakes, and those can be optioned with the regular Turbo too.
New features with the 2014 Turbo include rear-axle steering, turning the rear wheels parallel to the front wheels at speeds above 80km/h.
Porsche says the system is equivalent to lengthening the wheelbase by 500mm, creating greater stability at higher speeds.
The new all-wheel-drive system employs electronically controlled and activated multi-plate coupling, while a new water cooling system allows for more drive torque to go to the front wheels when necessary.
The Turbo models also get an active aerodynamic system for the first time, featuring a pneumatically controlled retractable three-stage front spoiler. The rear wing can also adjust to three positions. What's that good for? About two seconds on the Nurburgring, Porsche says.
In all, Porsche says the improvements to the 911 Turbo, drawing on the technologies of the all-new 991 911 range, contributes to a Nurburgring lap time "well below" 7m30s in Turbo S form.
Other features include full-LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights and a camera-based main beam control (the latter being an option in the regular Turbo).
In the cabin, the S model offers a black/carrera red colour combo, along with sports seats that offer 18-way adjustment and memory.
