Porsche has teased its new 2014 911 Targa in a new video this week, ahead of a confirmed debut at this month’s Detroit Auto Show.

An electronic folding roof for the new Targa was first rumoured in September last year, when leaked pictures of slides from a Porsche presentation were published online.

Text from the slides said "Fully automatic roof system to satisfy customer demands for comfort", and it appears Porsche has now confirmed this feature in the video.

The video shows what appears to be a large electronically-controlled folding roof of a building - perhaps above a sports stadium - as it opens to reveal the sunlight above.

“If you’re going to have a roof over your head, make it an amazing one” the voiceover at the end of the clip says.

The video only runs for 30 seconds and does not appear to feature any part of the 911 Targa itself.

Further evidence of the new 911 Targa’s roof design emerged last month, when detailed patent application renderings appeared online.

The 2014 Porsche 911 Targa will be based on the Carrera 4 and 4S, so expect 257kW 3.4 litre and 294kW 3.8 litre petrol engines.
