Destined for next month’s New York Auto Show, the new powerhaus two-door builds on the curvaceous look of the regular S-Class Coupe with a host of AMG enhancements - and that’s only on the outside.
Underneath the big S 63’s bonnet, you’ll find AMG’s now familiar 5.5 litre bi-turbo V8 engine, delivering a massive 430kW and 900Nm of torque.
Matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto, the big turbo engine propels the coupe to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds.
If you go for the rear-wheel-drive configuration, that is. Opt for the 4matic all-wheel-drive model and AMG says you’ll tear to the ton in just 3.9 seconds.
The 4matic system boasts a 67-33 (rear-front) torque distribution ratio, delivering greater traction without robbing owners of a properly good time.
With the new S 63, AMG has shaved 65kg from the kerb weight of its predecessor, and the company promises a power-to-weight ratio of 3.41kg/hp.
That helps its fuel consumption numbers too, with an official combined cycle figure of just 10.1 l/100km.
Elsewhere, the S 63 4matic gets Airmatic air-suspension with ADS Plus adaptive dampers, while the ‘regular’ version gets Merc’s Magic Body Control tech.
The seven-speed MCT auto offers three driving modes: Controlled efficiency, Sport and full Manual.
The AMG exhaust system is also tweaked with each setting to deliver an appropriate note for the driving mode selected.
The S 63 AMG will make its official debut at next month’s New York Auto Show, and European deliveries will begin in September. We can likely expect an Australian debut to occur not long after.
