Maserati's new Quattroporte has been spied testing once more, this time lapping the Nurburgring in the customary heavy camouflage.

The big sedan's disguise may be all for naught, however: images obtained from the European patent office in July look to have given the game away.

The images, purportedly part of Maserati's patent application for the new car, suggest the all-new model will retain much of the familiar Maserati look.

The front and rear styling is where the bulk of the standout differences can be found, with new lights and bumpers at both ends.

The thick C-pillar of the current model has inspired a similar look on the new sedan, and the three-slot gills remain in the usual spot behind the front wheels.
