Maserati has revealed new information on its upcoming Quattroporte sedan, confirming a number of mechanical details ahead of its 2013 debut.
As expected, the entry-level engine option in the new Quattroporte range will be a 3.0 litre V6, based on Chrysler's Pentastar engine.
With twin turbochargers and direct-injection up its sleeve, the enhanced mill promises 300kW at 5500rpm, and 550Nm of torque from 1750rpm.
Matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission, Maserati says the V6 will push the large sedan to 96km/h (60mph) in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 307km/h.
Topping the two-engine line-up is a brand-new 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged and direct-injected V8, delivering 390kW at 6500rpm and 650Nm of torque from 2000rpm - 710Nm with its overboost function.
Both engines will be built by Ferrari at its Maranello facility.
Engine options in the outgoing fifth-generation include a 294kW 4.2 V8, and a 4.7 litre V8 producing 316 or 324kW, depending on specification.
The new V8 model will feature a rear-wheel-drive configuration, while the V6 will have the option of a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.
The rear wheels will get 100 percent of torque in normal driving, but as much as 50 percent will go to the front wheels when needed.
The Quattroporte will also feature Maserati's new Skyhook suspension system, along with adjustable dampers and speed-sensitive hydraulic steering.
The new Quattroporte measures 5263mm long and 1948mm wide, marking a considerable growth spurt, with the old model coming in 163mm shorter and 64mm narrower.
The wheelbase has also been stretched 107mm to 3170mm, with a focus on improved rear legroom.
The enlarged proportions of the Quattroporte will also serve to make room for the new Ghibli large sedan, due to debut late in 2013.
A liberal use of aluminium in the Quattroporte's construction also sees the big saloon's weight fall by around 100kg, with the V6 weighing in at 1860kg, and the V8 at 1900kg even.
