Kia’s midsized Sportage SUV has come in for a new model-year update this week, following last year’s launch of the revised Series II range.

Now kicking off at $25,990, the Sportage gets a small price bump and a new 2.0 litre petrol engine.

The new four-cylinder mill replaces the 2.0 litre unit in the outgoing range, and while power stays steady on 122kW 6200rpm, torque has increased 8Nm to 205Nm at 4000rpm.

The petrol engine lists fuel consumption at 8.2 l/100km with the six-speed manual option (down from 8.7) and 8.4 l/100km with the six-speed auto (down from 8.8 l/100km). The all-wheel-drive model lists fuel use at 8.6 l/100km.

The existing 2.0 litre turbodiesel carries over for the new year, with outputs rated at 135kW at 4000rpm and 392Nm between 1800-2500rpm.

In diesel form, and matched exclusively with a six-speed auto and all-wheel-drive, the Sportage lists fuel use at 7.2 l/100km.

Standard features with the entry-level Sportage Si include 16-inch alloy wheels and a full-size spare, cloth seats, reversing sensors, six airbags, and six-speed auto with aux/USB/Bluetooth connectivity.

Pricing for the Si models has increased $500 for the manual and $600 for the auto.

There’s also a new front-wheel-drive $29,990 Si Premium grade, which adds 17-inch alloys, LED daytime lights, roof rails, auto lights and wipers, roof rails, reversing camera, leather-accented seats, leather steering wheel and shifter, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, electric folding door mirrors and driver lumbar support.

Upgrading to the mid-range all-wheel-drive SLi adds a seven-inch main display and a 4.2 inch colour instrument cluster display, Infinity audio system, satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, front parking sensors and a sharkfin antenna.

The SLi is up $1300 in petrol form and $800 for the diesel, compared to last year.

At the top end is the familiar Platinum grade, which gets a panoramic sunroof, HID headlights and LED tail-lights, smart-key entry and push-button start, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, and seat warmers for both front occupants.

The Platinum models have increased in price by $1900 for the petrol model and $1400 for the diesel.

NOTE: Australian photos still to come.
