2014 KIA RIO SPECIAL EDITION
Kia has rolled out a new special-edition model in its light Rio hatch range, adding new features to the entry ‘S’ five-door model.
Priced from $16,190 drive-away, the new special adds 15-inch alloy wheels, six-speaker audio with two tweeters, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, cruise control, alloy pedals and front fog lights.
In all, Kia says it has added around $1000 in extras to the popular hatch, while the drive-away pricing - about level with the S model’s list price - means the carmaker is covering all costs.
Power in the Rio S - and this special-edition version - is provided by Kia’s 1.4 litre petrol engine, producing 79kW and 135Nm of torque.
Fuel consumption is rated at rated at 5.7 l/100km with the manual model, and 6.3 l/100km with the four-speed auto (A six-speed auto is available with the larger 1.6 engine).
Kia has sold 2551 of its light Rio cars year-to-date, down from 3102 this time last year. It remains a popular offering however, ranking fourth in the light-car segment.
The Hyundai Accent - a sedan companion to the i20 - is also in the chase with 2058 sales year-to-date. If the Accent wore the i20 badge, hyundai would be leading the light-car race on 6555 sales.
