It's not much to look at, but the oldest model in Kia Australia's current range - the big Grand Carnival - is still the most popular people-mover on the market.

But soon, just as it did with the Rondo, Kia will give the Carnival a major style injection, boosting the big van's appeal among families and touring musical acts.

It'll be a welcome update for Kia Australia: although far from disastrous, sales of the Grand Carnival have fallen by a little over four percent, compared to this time last year.

The new 2014 Grand Carnival will undoubtedly arrest that slow slide, and it worked for the Rondo. According to latest VFACTS figures, Rondo sales have exploded, growing by 216 percent since the new model arrived.

As for what we can expect on the styling front, new spy photos obtained this week reveal that we can expect 'a little of this, a little of that'.

The spied tester is wrapped head-to-tail in camouflage, but it is clear that Kia is mixing elements of its current styling in with features from the popular 2011 KV7 concept.

Up front, we can see a longer car-like bonnet than the current Carnival, clearly inspired by the KV7. It's also a design feature that boosts occupant and pedestrian protection in the event of a collision.

The profile of the new van again reveals KV7 cues, most noteably at the tapered rear quarter window, which creates a more sporting look without affecting head space.

The very front and rear styling of the new Grand Carnival leans more to Kia's current range however, with large headlights reaching up into the front guards, complemented by similarly larger tail lamps at the other end.

Little else is known about the 2014 Grand Carnival at this stage, but we can expect the current model's three-row seating arrangement to continue.

Petrol and diesel engine options should also feature in the new model, matched to an automatic transmission.
