BMW has added a pair of entry-level options to its new Australian X5 line-up, which first arrived in November last year.

The rear-wheel-drive sDrive25d and the all-wheel-drive xDrive25d, debuting this week, cut the price of entry into the 2014 X5 range to $82,900 and $87,900 respectively.

The new variants bring the X5 range’s spread to seven models, joining the xDrive30d, xDrive35i, xDrive40d and xDrive50i, and the hero M50d.

The debut of the sDrive25d also marks the first time a four-cylinder diesel or 2WD option have been offered in an X5 in Australia.

In both models, the 2.0 litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine produces 160kW at 4400rpm and 450Nm between 1500 and 2500rpm.

BMW promises a zero to 100km/h time of 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 220km/h in both the sDrive25d and xDrive25d.

Thanks to the lighter RWD platform which tips the scales a fraction under 2000kg, the entry-level sDrive25d can achieve a fuel figure of 5.8 l/100km, which rises to 6.0 l/100 in the AWD xDrive25d model.

Features in the new sDrive25d and xDrive25d include a 10.25inch display with Navigation System Professional, the 'HiFi' audio system, extended Bluetooth functionality including audio streaming and internet connectivity.

18-inch wheels are standard, along with dual-zone climate control, bi-xenon headlights, power adjusted leather front seats, leather steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors and a powered tailgate.

Seating five in standard form, the entry models can also be optioned with a third row of seating at an additional cost of $4600 (including upgrade to air suspension).

In five-seat form, rear storage is listed at 650 litres with the back seats upright, and 1870 litres when laid flat.

Towing capacity is listed at 2700kg braked and 750kg unbraked. Max roof and downball load is rated at 100 and 140kg respectively.
