Is this the upcoming 2014 BMW X5 SUV? Reports out of Malaysia this week suggest these images might offer the first clear look at the new model.
According to website Cars Bikes Trucks, the images shown here are official press shots issued by BMW to a scale model manufacturer for use in future advertising.
If these photos are the genuine article, BMW's new X5 will reflect the lines of the new 3 Series, featuring the same connected headlight and grille design worn by the midsized sedan and wagon.
Elements of the tall 3 Series GT can also be seen in the new X5, with the same brake vent aft of the front wheel arches, and a similar tail-light design.
Underneath, the 2014 X5 will likely utilise a version of the platform that underpins the new "F10" 5 Series large sedan, with a greater use of aluminium expected to bring the big SUV's weight down by around 150-200kg.
Although too early to say for certain, it is likely that the new X5 will be offered with a range of six-cylinder engine options, in petrol and diesel form, along with a new ActiveHybrid variant and the top-shelf V8-powered X5 M.
