Another new BMW has been spied playing in the snow this week, with the development team for the 2014 X5 making the most of the cold weather.

As with last month's shots, our latest spy photos reveal little of the new "F15" X5's exterior, but they do bring their own 'first': the next-generation SUV's interior.

While much of the cabin remains covered, the essentials are on show here, including the motorised touchscreen, HVAC vents and controls, gear shifter and instrument cluster.

Like the new 3 Series sedan, the new X5's interior presents an evolutionary design path, with the usual BMW styling cues and trims.

Mechanically, the the 2014 X5 will likely utilise a version of the same platform that underpins the new 5 Series, with a greater use of aluminium expected to bring the big SUV's weight down by around 150-200kg.

Although too early to say for certain, it is likely that the new X5 will be offered with a range of six-cylinder engine options, in petrol and diesel form, along with a new ActiveHybrid variant and the top-shelf V8-powered X5 M.
