Powered by an M Performance 3.0 litre TwinPower turbocharged six-cylinder engine with a racing exhaust, the M235i Racing will officially make 245kW of power (up 5kW from the regular model) and 450Nm of torque.
The M235i Racing is 4454mm long, 1862mm wide (without mirrors), 1380mm high and has a wheelbase of 2690mm. The maximum track width is 1608mm.
Underneath, there’s a BMW M Performance limited-slip differential along with KW Dampers, H&R springs and anti-roll bars, both front and rear.
Housed within the 18x10 inch alloy wheels are four-pot racing callipers, taking care of stopping at the front, while the rear gets a two-pot set-up.
Electronic safety (and performance) features include racing-specific ABS, DSC and traction control and the M235i Racing also features a motorsport-safety fuel tank.
Inside, you’ll find paddle shifters on the steering wheel, an FIA-approved roll-cage, six-point racing harnesses and a Recaro racing seat.
Optional extras include a ‘taxi’ seat with six-point harness and an XL driver’s seat.
Pricing in Europe kicks off at €59,500 plus VAT (AU$91,504 plus GST).
Speaking with TMR in October, BMW Australia General Manager Corporate Communications, Lenore Fletcher, said that timing for the 2 Series in Australia is still being confirmed, although a first-half 2014 launch is planned.
Ms Fletcher added that BMW Australia is especially keen on the regular M235i hero, and getting it to Australia would be "the optimum result".
The Racing model, though? That remains to be seen.
