2014 BMW 2 Series Teased: Video

BMW's 2 Series is just around the corner, and to alert us to its impending arrival BMW's hype machine has spat out this brief teaser video.

You'll only catch a fleeting glimpse of a 2 Series coupe executing a dirt powerslide, but the message is clear - two doors, rear-wheel drive.

What else do we know about the 2? Well, in BMW's revised nomenclature system the 2 replaces the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible, and it's built on the same underpinnings as the 1 Series hatch.

Besides the usual 1.6 litre turbo petrol and 2.0 diesel variants, there will be a high-performance M235i with approximately 240kW from a turbocharged 3.0 litre inline six. How fast? Around 4.8 seconds to 100km/h, according to recent reports.

We'll need to wait until the Detroit auto how early next year to see it in the flesh, but BMW is promising more teaser vids in the lead up to the 2 Series' global debut. Stay tuned.
