AUDI RS5 CABRIOLET AUSTRALIA
Priced at $175,900, the new RS 5 Cabriolet enters above the already-here RS 5 Coupe, which has been given its second significant price cut in two years, down now from $161,400 to $155,900.
The RS 5 Cabriolet is the first of its kind, however, and while its coupe sibling has been around since 2010, this new droptop arrives as something of a successor to the RS 4 Cabriolet.
Driven by Audi's naturally-aspirated 4.2 litre V8, the RS 5 Cabrio sends power to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Output is rated at 331kW at 8250rpm and 430Nm of torque between 4000 and 6000rpm.
Audi claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds, on the way to knocking over 200km/h in 10.9 seconds. Fuel consumption is listed at 10.7 l/100km. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.
Those numbers are fractions higher than the figures of the RS 5 Coupe, but with a 200kg disadvantage, that's to be expected.
Being a performance-focused convertible, Audi has blessed the RS 5 Cabrio with additional reinforcements for improved rigidity.
Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system also stars, distributing torque between the front and rear axles at a 40:60 ratio, directing up to 70 percent to the front or a maximum of 85 percent to the rear.
The RS 5 Cabrio is equipped with the RS sports-tuned suspension as standard, although the Sports Suspension Plus and Dynamic Ride Control kit can be added as part of the $5900 Dynamic Sports package.
Braking is managed by ventilated 'wave' discs, and ceramic brakes can be optioned for the front end.
The cabrio rides on 19-inch aluminium wheels as standard ,but the Dynamic Sports package includes an upgrade to 20-inch alloys.
Headlining the RS 5 Cabriolet's features is its lightweight soft-top roof, opening and closing automatically in less than 17 seconds, at speeds up to 50km/h.
When open, the roof uses around 60 litres of the Cabrio's 380 litres of rear storage space.
Audi has also used the RS 5 Cabriolet to give an Australian debut for its Connect system, offering owners a number of internet-connected features.
The Audi Connect system allows users to access the internet from their mobile devices through an integrated wifi 'hotspot' in the RS 5 Cabrio, while the dash display also offers Panoramio pictures and Wikipedia information about various destinations.
Other features include the Audi Parking System with a rear view camera, flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity, 10-speaker audio with a subwoofer, front and rear climate-controlled sports seats, an acoustic hood, and automatic LED lighting at the front and rear.
As described earlier, the RS 5 Cabriolet is also available with the Dynamic Sports package, adding Sports Suspension Plus and Dynamic Ride Control, and the choice of three-different 20-inch wheel styles.
