The sedan version of Audi's small new A3 is on its way, and new spy photos captured this week reveal that testing is now well advanced.
First hinted at by last year's A3 Sedan Concept - a show car that also previewed the face of the new hatch - the new model is expected to make its production debut toward the middle of next year.
We can likely expect the front end of the sedan to appear identical to its five- and three-door siblings, while the rear will likely remain largely unchanged - although softened a little - from the concept.
Expect engine options to include 1.4 and 1.8 litre TFSI units, along with a 2.0 litre TDI diesel. Audi's new aluminium-block 1.2 litre TFSI unit will likely follow, along with an efficiency-leading 1.6 litre TDI diesel.
In concept form, the A3 Sedan featured Audi's 2.5 litre five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, sending power to all four wheels through Audi's quattro system and seven-speed S tronic transmission.
Unlike the RS 3, which utilises a version of the same engine, the A3 Sedan concept packed 300kW and 500Nm of torque - 50kW and 50Nm up on the all-wheel-drive hot hatch.
