Audi's new A3 Cabriolet has touched down in Australia, joining the recently arrived A3 Sedan and the still-fresh A3 Sportback hatch.

The new droptop kicks off from $47,300 for the Attraction model - marking a nearly $5000 saving when compared to the outgoing A3 Cabriolet range.

Engine Options

The Attraction opens the line-up with its 103kW/250Nm 1.4 TFSI cylinder-on-demand petrol engine and seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch auto.

Audi says fuel consumption for the Attraction model is listed at just 4.9 l/100km which, combined with its reduced price over the outgoing range, is expected to make it the most popular model in the new line-up.

All other models wear the Ambition name, adding more power and more features.

The first Ambition model is the $51,900 132kW/250Nm 1.8 TFSI, matched with Audi’s seven-speed S tronic auto.

Likewise, the torquey 110kW/320Nm 2.0 TDI S tronic is also priced at $51,900, while the 1.8 TFSI S tronic with quattro all-wheel-drive bumps the price up to $54,900.

Features

Standout features in the Attraction model include 17-inch alloy wheels, leather trim, dual-zone climate control, a 5.8-inch dash display, Bluetooth phone/music, eight speakers, automatic lights and wipers, and front- and rear-parking sensors.

Upgrading to the Ambition models adds contoured sports seats with greater adjustment, aluminium accents, sports steering wheel with paddle shifters and an upgraded instrument cluster, Audi Drive Select, and front fog lights.

All models boast 320 litres of storage in the boot, growing to 680 litres with the 60:40 split-fold rear seats laid flat.

About the A3 Cabriolet

The A3 Cabrio shares its platform with the longer sedan, allowing for a more lifestyle-oriented approach that gives it greater interior space, a bigger boot - and a bigger look.

Thanks to Volkswagen's MQB platform, the new Cabrio is also lighter than its predecessor by around 60kg, despite its larger dimensions.

The focal point of any convertible is of course its disappearing roof, and the A3 Cabrio features a soft-top that folds up or away in less than 18 seconds while travelling at up to 50km/h.
