New features for 2014 include a new diesel engine, revised styling, new wheel designs, an updated steering wheel and new trim options.
The new engine is a 2.0 litre turbo-diesel JTDM unit, making 112kW and 380Nm, which translates to less power but more torque than the 2.0 litre diesel currently offered in Australia.
Fuel consumption figures are still to be confirmed, although Alfa promises sharper figures than its predecessor. The new engine is rated to 'Euro 5 +' emissions regulations, but Euro 6 compliance is planned.
Updated styling at the front includes a tweaked grille and chrome-plated frames around the fog-lights. There are three wheel sizes; 16-, 17- and 18-inch and each design is new.
Along with the new wheels, there are three new paint finishes to choose from; Moonlight Pearl, Anodizzato Blue and Bronze.
Inside, the Giulietta can be optioned with Chrysler's Uconnent infotainment system with a 5- or 6.5-inch touchscreen to operate the satellite navigation, voice command and smartphone connectivity.
There’s also new wrap-around sports seats finished in black leather, new steering wheels and new finishes for the dash, door panels and handles. Five trim levels are available; Progression, Distinctive, Impression, Exclusive and Quadrifoglio Verde.
For further personalisation buyers can choose from the Style, Visibility, Comfort, Lusso, Premium, Business, Sport or QV Sportiva option packs.
On the road, the 2014 Giulietta has dual-pinion active steering and Alfa’s DNA system, which adapts to the driving style of the owner while offering Normal, Dynamic and All-Weather driving modes.
Safety wise, the new model scores a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, with standard ESP, six airbags, three-point seat belts with double pre-tensioner and an anti-whiplash system.
The 2014 Alfa Romeo Giulietta goes on sale from October in European markets. Australian timing is yet to be confirmed.
