2013 Subaru Liberty Exiga Adds Seventh Seat For Australia

Subaru's Australian-delivered Liberty Exiga wagon will pick up an extra pew for the 2013 model year, increasing passenger space to seven seats.

That seventh spot has been offered in Japan since the Exiga's debut, but with only a lap-belt fitted, Subaru Australia left the seat out rather than risk the brand's 5-Star safety record.

Now, with a full lap-sash belt newly added, Subaru Australia will offer the extra seat as standard equipment from July, making the Exiga more competitive in the people-moving segment.

"Ever since we launched Exiga we’ve had feedback that people loved the size and flexibility of the cabin, but some felt a seventh seat would be the icing on the cake, so that’s exactly what Fuji Heavy Industries have now delivered," Subaru Australia boss Nick Senior said.

Exiga Premium variants will also pick up a new 17-inch wheel design, along with restyled door mirrors.

In January, the 2012 Exiga gained a reversing camera, dusk-sensing headlights, USB and Aux connectivity, and steering-mounted controls for Bluetooth calling and audio streaming.

The Exiga remains otherwise unchanged, with power provided by Subaru's 123kW/229Nm 2.5 litre EJ25 boxer engine, paired to a Lineartronic CVT automatic gearbox and all-wheel-drive system.

Fuel economy is listed at 8.6 l/100km, emitting 202g/km of CO2.
