Skoda’s compact Yeti may have only been on the Australian market since October, but these recent spy photos reveal that it will soon receive a mid-cycle refresh.

The Czech brand’s small SUV has been on sale in Europe since 2009, so such an update is actually quite timely.

Fans of the current model’s styling needn’t worry too much though, as these pics suggest the aesthetic changes will be quite minor.

A new lower front-fascia is evident, with a deeper lip and reshaped apertures, while the camouflaged areas suggest detail changes to front and rear lighting.

Though not obvious in these images, we would expect the production car to feature detail changes to its grille surround, linking it to the design pioneered on the MissionL concept shown at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

This same grille design is expected to feature on the upcoming Rapid small sedan - itself the production version of the MissionL.

Skoda has not confirmed any technical details, but wider use of the seven-speed (some current models use the 6-speed) DSG transmission along with efficiency improvements are possibilities.

The facelifted Yeti is expected to make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.
