2013 Renault Clio RS To Get 1.6 Turbo Power: Report

Renault's all-new 2013 Clio RS will reportedly swap its 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine for a smaller turbocharged mill.

According to Britain's Autocar, the little hotbox's new heart will be a version of the Nissan Juke's turbocharged 1.6 litre engine, producing around 150kW.

With the current engine already developing 147.5kW, the change will be focused more on fuel economy and emissions rather than a boost in power.

A new dual-clutch transmission is also expected to feature as an option, aided by steering-mounted paddle shifters.

Recent spy shots of the Renaultsport-enhanced Clio flagship reveal a curvaeous new body and the brand's new family grille, while adding a host of performance items.

We can see that the RS will wear the customary sports kit, including unique bumpers with larger intakes and vents, along with bigger wheels and a twin-exhaust arrangement at the rear.

Larger brakes can be spotted behind the slotted spokes, and exterior styling is rounded out by side skirts and a hatch-mounted roof spoiler.

Setting the new model apart from its predecessor, the 2013 Clio RS is expected to be offered in five-door form only, with its pillar-mounted rear door handles and sloping roofline helping to create a two-door look.

Watch for the new Clio range to debut at September's Paris Motor Show, with the RS to follow sometime after.
