This year's Australian International Motor Show is drawing nearer, and the number of new models locked in for a debut is growing each week.

Today, Nissan has confirmed it will use the event to host two model launches: the all-new Pulsar small car, and the next-generation Patrol 4WD.

The Pulsar, confirmed for Australia earlier this year, is making a return to Australia after it was replaced some years ago by the Tiida.

The new car builds on the styling of the upcoming Altima sedan - due here in 2013 - with a large grille, hooked lighting at both ends and prominent swage lines along its profile.

Power for the new Pulsar is provided by a new 1.8 litre petrol engine (output has not been revealed), mated to Nissan's next-gen XTronic continuously variable automatic transmission.

The huge new Patrol has been a long time coming for Australian buyers. Revealed in 2010, the luxurious new 4WD has already made an appearance at previous AIMS events.

The new model brings a soft touch to the Patrol lineage, replacing the rugged looks of the previous model with handsome new 200 Series-rivalling style - and a more road-focused platform.

While it's a new arrival, it's not a replacement for the former model, however: Nissan has confirmed it will sell both generations of the Patrol side-by-side in Australia.

The Motor Report has driven the new Patrol already, read the review here.

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held in Sydney from October 19 to 28.
